Heightened Suicide Risk in Chronic Pain Sufferers

//"suicidaltendencies"There is a surprising link that suicidal tendencies are amplified by people who suffer from chronic pain which can help explain certain suicidal tendencies. Previous studies have focused on people who are already being treated for chronic pain, without considering the problem with those who are still to come in for treatment. The highest occurrence of suicidal thoughts came from people who suffered from chronic headaches who were found to be at twice the suicidal risk as those who suffer on other parts of the body.
Women are also seen to be at double risk of such suicidal tendencies due to their high emotional relation to the pain they are experiencing. People who suffer silently are wrecked by feelings of helplessness and tend to have less optimistic views of the world which may explain their high suicide risk. Previous attempts should give clue to a possible chronic illness that would help psychologists determine underling pain. These people already, dealing with so much physical pain due to their illness are not as susceptible to going a step further and truning to suicide as last resort to end the pain.
